EIC selects 40 new Transition projects to bring research results closer to market

The projects were selected following the 2025 EIC Transition cut-off, which attracted 611 proposals submitted by applicants from 17 EU Member States and Horizon Europe associated countries. Each selected project is eligible to receive up to €2.5 million in funding, subject to the successful completion of the grant agreement process.

The EIC Transition scheme is a key instrument within Horizon Europe, designed to help mature innovative technologies and validate business models, enabling the transition from research outcomes to market-ready, scalable solutions. The programme is fully bottom-up and open to proposals from all scientific and technological fields, without predefined thematic priorities.

In addition to the funded projects, the EIC has awarded 228 Seals of Excellence to high-quality proposals that met the evaluation thresholds but could not be funded due to budgetary constraints. These seals facilitate access to alternative European, national, or regional funding sources.

Selected project examples include:

  • BELFORT ASIC – A secure hardware accelerator enabling efficient processing of encrypted data, with applications in critical sectors such as finance and healthcare.

  • OFFSPRING – A novel biochemical approach designed to improve success rates in in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatments.

  • EASY – A sustainable process for producing ammonia from air and water, compatible with decentralised renewable energy systems.

Beyond grant funding, selected projects will benefit from the EIC’s Business Acceleration Services (BAS), including tailored coaching, mentoring, and facilitated access to investors, corporate partners, and innovation networks.

The EIC Transition programme plays a central role in the European Union’s strategy to transform scientific excellence into tangible economic and societal impact, helping bridge the gap between research and industrial or commercial deployment.

EIC Transition projects focus on results generated by:

  • EIC Pathfinder,

  • FET (Future and Emerging Technologies – as the predecessor of EIC Pathfinder),

  • European Research Council (ERC) Proof of Concept projects,

  • Research and Innovation Actions funded under Horizon 2020 Societal challenges and Leadership in Industrial Technologies and under Horizon Europe pillar II, with an eligible TRL

  • European Defence Fund (EDF), including the Preparatory Action on Defence Research, research projects, but only for proposals which are focused on civil applications (including dual use).

The funding is devoted to maturing the technologies and building a business case for specific applications. Grants of up to €2.5 million are available to validate and demonstrate technology in application-relevant environment and develop market readiness.

The selected projects will have access to EIC Business Acceleration Services including coaching, mentoring, and partnering events. Projects are also eligible for the fast-track scheme to access the EIC Accelerator for supporting the commercialisation and scale up phases.  Looking ahead, the next deadline for EIC Transition applications is 16 September 2026.
